Benjamin Pedersen moves to Double R Racing in BRDC British F3

by Rob Hansford

Double R Racing has announced Benjamin Pedersen as its first signing for BRDC British Formula 3 this year.

Pedersen made his debut in the series last year, racing for Douglas Motorsport, with highlights being a race win at Silverstone and a podium at Snetterton early in the season on the way to 14th in the standings.

The 20-year-old also contested a part-season in F3 Americas, finishing runner-up in the standings and winning seven of the 10 races he entered, as well as three pole positions.

Pederson believes his team switch will help his aim to win the British F3 title.

“I?m very excited to finally announce I?m joining Double R for the 2020 BRDC British F3 season,” said Pedersen.

“I feel very confident we can have a strong and successful year now that I have a year under my belt in the UK from last season, with track and car knowledge.

“The whole Double R team was extremely impressive during initial testing and I?m very excited to work with this passionate, successful and incredibly professional team on a daily basis at the factory and, of course, come race time!”

Pedersen’s single-seater career started in United States Formula 4 in 2016. He finished 10th in the standings and improved to fourth in his sophomore season. A third season in the championship resulted in several wins but only fifth place in the points.

A part-time campaign in F3 America’s inaugural season left him third in the standings in 2018, which he improved to second a year later.

Double R Racing team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt believes Pedersen can repeat those improvements in British F3.

“Benjamin showed some impressive pace last season in his first year in Britain, and we?ve been impressed with what we?ve seen so far in testing.” Hieatt said.

“With a full year of experience in the championship under his belt, and having learnt all of the tracks, he should be a driver to watch.

“You can?t underestimate the importance of experience at this level, so we?ve got high hopes for the new season and we?re determined to mount a challenge to be back on top in the championship.

“We will definitely be back with three cars again, and it?s fantastic news to be able to confirm Benjamin so early in the new year.”
