Nikita Bedrin extended his GB3 championship lead by taking his fourth victory of the season at the Hungaroring.

The Velocity Racing Development driver finished two seconds clear of Martin Molnar, but there was drama for two of the other main contenders as Deagen Fairclough and Maxim Rehm both retired with mechanical failure.

Bedrin lined up from pole but, as in Saturday’s opening contest, Fairclough made the better start from the inside of the front row to snatch the lead into turn one. However, the Hitech GP driver didn’t remain in front for long, with Bedrin sweeping around the outside at the next corner to reclaim the advantage.

The race was neutralised due to a first-corner tangle between Hitech’s Jacob Micallef and Hillspeed’s Peter Bouzinelous, and there was more drama when Fairclough ground to a halt with an issue before the opening lap was completed.

There was a further delay to proceedings when the restart was aborted after the safety car had peeled into the pitlane, resulting in the field completing two more laps before green-flag running resumed at the halfway stage.

Bedrin maintained the lead while a battle developed behind him between Rodin Motorsport duo Molnar and Rehm, with the latter eventually diving down the inside into turn one to grab second, but the German racer almost immediately slowed and then pulled off the circuit further around the lap.

Bedrin ran unopposed until the chequered flag to seal victory ahead of Molnar, who took a podium on home soil. Xcel’s Lucas Fluxa finished third ahead of Rodin’s Abbi Pulling, while Elite Motorsport’s Kyuho Lee held off Dante Vinci and Patricio Gonzalez for fifth.

Hillspeed’s Aurelia Nobels was eighth ahead of Rodrigo Gonzalez, and Elite’s Flynn Jackes completed the top 10.
