Barnicoat sets the pace in Protyre Autumn Cup practice

by Valentin Khorounzhiy

Karting graduate Ben Barnicoat was the quickest out of a field of six in Protyre Autumn Cup practice at Rockingham, setting the fastest lap and topping four sessions out of six.

The RSF-backed junior, contesting the standalone event with Fortec, was immediately on the pace from the very start of testing and went on to largely dominate the proceedings of the day.

Fellow Fortec man and karting graduate Martin Kodric also impressed, as he showed gradual improvement over the day, finally topping the sixth practice session with the second-best time of the overall running.

Fortec’s Protyre regular Hong Wei Cao was also among the pacesetters, clocking in the third best effort of the day with his session-topping lap in FP2. Meanwhile, MGR’s Alex Gill had a day of mixed pace, but capped it off with an excellent lap in the final session, less than three tenths off of the day’s benchmark.

Both Pietro Fittipaldi and Yosuke Yamazaki weren’t particularly far off the pace as they rounded out the field.

Matteo Ferrer, having been earlier announced as Gill’s partner at MGR, pulled out of the weekend due to injury.
