Axel Gnos confirmed at G4 for second FREC season

by Ida Wood

Swiss driver Axel Gnos will embark on a second season in Formula Regional European Championship this year with his father’s G4 Racing team.

It had long been anticipated that Gnos would complete G4’s 2022 line-up alongside rookies Owen Tangavelou and Matias Zagazeta, with the team having run him in karting, Formula 4 and then into FREC last year when it bought Bhaitech’s entry.

He came sixth in Spanish F4 in 2019 and to 23rd in Italian F4 in 2020, and was 28th in his rookie FREC campaign with a best finish of 14th. He failed to qualify for one of the Monaco races. G4 picked up two wins that season thanks to Michael Belov.

“I am very pleased to be able to stay with G4 Racing for my second year in FREC,” said Gnos. “The people working there are serious and hard workers so I will try to maximize our performances and do the best results possible on track.”

G4’s sporting and technical manager Adrian Munoz commented: “I am delighted to confirm Axel as our third driver for the season. With him, we get the plus provided by a driver that has already experience with the car and team and will be very helpful for the adaptation process of our two rookie drivers. It’s going to be a hard and competitive year, but I am sure Axel will be strong.”

The confirmation of Gnos at G4 means there are 10 remaining seats to be filled in FREC. Reigning French F4 champion Esteban Masson and Piotr Wisnicki have signed to race in the championship but not revealed which teams they will join.
