Caterham junior Aurelien Panis will continue his 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season with Prema Powerteam, switching to the Italian squad from his previous team RC Formula.

Panis, 18, has achieved decent results with the Luxembourgian squad during his appearances in Formula Renault NEC, with a best finish of fourth, but struggled to get on the pace in the Eurocup category, in which the RC Formula team is still to score a point in 2013.

“I’m looking forward to joining the Team Prema for the next races”, said Panis in relation to the team change. “This is a team with an impressive record list and with a lot of experience which will allow me to progress in my racing career in parallel of my training within the Caterham Racing Academy. A big thank you goes out to RC Formula with whom I started the season and I wish them all the best.”

Team principal Angelo Rosin added: “We’re proud to welcome Aurelien in our family. This young man has already showed good performance skills. We’re looking forward to let him grow and improve in the best possible way during this championship. Being partnered by the quick and experienced [Bruno] Bonifacio and?[Luca] Ghiotto, he will have two great benchmarks. I’m very curious to see how he will work with us at Spielberg.”

Panis is set to join the Italian team for the remaining four rounds of the Eurocup season. Prema Powerteam occupies sixth in the teams’ standings, despite only having two points-eligible drivers.
