Al Qubaisi sisters team up at MP Motorsport for F1 Academy

by Ida Wood

Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi will both race for MP Motorsport in the inaugural season of the all-women Formula 4-spec F1 Academy series.

The two Emirati sisters have spent much of their car racing careers in the same team, having previously been long-time Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema drivers. They raced together in Italian F4 and F4 United Arab Emirates in 2019, and then in the Formula Regional Asian Championship in 2022.

Amna, the older of the two, has one pole and one win to her name in F4 and one point from 33 races in FRegional. Her younger sister Hamda twice came fourth in F4 UAE, claiming three wins and seven poles in 2020 and a further three wins in 2021. She also has an Italian F4 podium to her name, and a best finish of 12th from her 30 FRegional races.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Amna and Hamda to our F1 Academy squad,” said MP’s team principal Sander Dormsna. “They are from a family that carries speed in their veins and have a bright future in motorsport ahead of them.

“I have fond memories of the Dubai 24 Hours in which we competed against their father Khaled who won it twice back in 2012, 2013 when Amna and Hamda were still little girls, and then for a third time in 2020.

“It’s amazing to realize that they have grown into fierce competitors in karting and now in single-seaters where they form arguably the quickest sister act in the entire world of motorsport. 2023 is going to be great with the pair of them.”

Their father Khaled Al Qubaisi has actually raced against them on track, as he competed in FRAC in 2021 and ’22.
