Victor Bernier and Matias Zagazeta have confirmed their plans for their second seasons in the Formula Regional European Championship.

Zagazeta [above, left] will drive for R-ace GP, a team he has already got experience after racing for them in the recently held FRegional Middle East series. He contested three rounds, starting his campaign with a podium and coming 17th in the standings.

Last year he raced in FREC with G4 Racing, and was a lowly 32nd in the championship as he finished no higher than 18th. He had stepped up to FRegional as the 2021 British Formula 4 runner-up.

“R-ace GP is a fantastic team as they have proven themselves on the past seasons being consistently challenging for victories and podiums with all their drivers and eventually helping drivers reach the pinnacle of motorsport,” said Zagazeta.

“Definitely looking forward to getting the season started. I am sure we will have a very successful season this year as a team and I can’t wait to achieve some memorable results together.”

Bernier [above, right] has signed with MP Motorsport, and similarly has knowledge of his team for 2023 as the FA Racing squad he raced for last year was run by MP.

The 18-year-old was fourth in French F4 back in 2019, then spent two seasons in ADAC F4 and won three races. His rookie FREC campaign was similar to Zagazeta’s, although he managed to score points at Zandvoort and finish the season with a podium at Mugello to come 17th in the standings.

“I’m very much looking forward to racing with MP in my second year in the series,” said Bernier.

“They’re one of the leading teams on the single-seater ladder to Formula 1, and possess all the qualities needed to support promising young drivers on their way to the top. I already found out in testing how well this team operates, and together we will aim to be consistent frontrunners throughout the season.”
