Adderly Fong has confirmed that he will race for Status Grand Prix in the GP3 Series this year.
The 23-year-old, who was born in Vancouver, Canada but races under the Chinese flag, has been driving for the Silverstone-based Status team during pre-season testing at Estoril and Barcelona, with a best showing this week of ninth place on Tuesday morning. He previously turned out for the Marussia Manor squad at the end of 2012.
“I am proud to say that I will be racing for Status GP in the 2013 GP3 championship,” said Fong on Twitter on Wednesday evening following the Barcelona test.
Fong joins German F3 champion Jimmy Eriksson and Formula Renault BARC graduate Josh Webster at Status, whose Team Principal is Canadian Teddy Yip Jr, son of the former F1 team owner and Asian businessman.
Fong has raced at F3 level for several years, driving in the German cup in 2008 and 2009 before two full seasons in British F3, finishing tenth in the Macau Grand Prix in 2011. Last year he entered races in a number of championships, from British F3 and Auto GP to Indy Lights and the Chinese Audi R8 LMS Cup, where he finished second overall.
