Gold wins as Foster and Miller collide at Indianapolis

Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Reece Gold won Indy Pro 2000’s second race of the weekend at Indianapolis after the front row starters collided on the opening lap.

This is Gold’s second success of the season after he had already taken the victory in race one at Barber Motorsports Park.

It was an eventful start to the race with as many as three drivers taking the escape road in the first corner. In a separate incident, Pabst Racing’s Jordan Missig stopped in the grass of turn two with a damaged car.

More drama would come as drivers approached turn seven. Exclusive Autosport’s Louis Foster, who had stayed behind polesitter Jack William Miller at the start, went deep on the brakes and ended up hitting Miller. As a consequence, Miller spun round and dropped down to 12th place and Foster went down to fifth position before a drive-through penalty would put him to the back of the pack.

At the restart, DEForce Racing’s Nolan Siegel, Gold and Pabst Racing’s Colin Kaminsky and went three-wide into turn one. Siegel, who had inherited the race lead after Foster collided with Miller, couldn’t hold on to first place and dropped behind Gold and Kaminsky. Gold would lead comfortably for the rest of the race with the top three remaining unchanged.

Despite the initial setback, Miller showed great pace and was able to recover some of the places lost. He was already sixth by the end of lap eight. In the final stages of the race, he was even able to put pressure on DEForce Racing’s Kiko Porto for fourth place. However, Miller’s pace dropped in the last few laps and he had to settle for fifth place.
