FIA Formula 3 Championship racer Roman Stanek has been announced to race with Motopark’s Euroformula line-up for this weekend’s Imola round.
The former Sauber junior has raced for Hitech GP in Asia and Europe this year, coming 10th in Asian F3 against largely more-experienced opposition and then scoring points on two occasions over the first three FIA F3 rounds to sit 17th in the standings there, with a best finish of fourth in the second race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.
Stanek also raced in FIA F3 in 2020 with Charouz Racing System as a late replacement for Niko Kari and took a best finish of eighth at Monza.
Although he has been racing at a higher level for the past season and a half, as well as at Regional F3 level, Stanek’s appearance will mark his Euroformula debut.
Formula Scout understands that this is in the absence of former W Series racer Vivien Keszthelyi, who currently lies 15th in the Euroformula points with a best finish of eighth at Spa. No reason has been given by the team or the driver for the late change.
Stanek will join regular drivers Cameron Das and Jak Crawford at the frontrunning outfit which has so far largely dominated the season, winning seven of the 12 races run with five for championship leader Das and two for Stanek’s FIA F3 team-mate Crawford.
Previously Motopark has used reserve driver Matthias Luethen when a member of its regular line-up hasn’t been able to race, such as in the case of Crawford at Spa in June, but the arrival of Stanek suggests this may not be a one-off appearance.
