Marino Sato overcame an early car issue to put himself on pole position for the second Euroformula Open race at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Japanese driver set a stunning 2m10.266s lap, which put him 0.775s clear of his countryman and Motopark team-mate Yuki Tsunoda.

With so many cars on track late in the session, it meant there was lots of traffic and this led to several aborted laps.

The third Motopark car of Liam Lawson faced such a problem on his final lap, which dropped him from third to fifth behind Double R Racing?s Jack Doohan and Teo Mart?n Motorsport?s Lukas Dunner.

As a result, the top four cars in qualifying were the same as they were for the first race.

Fortec Motorsport?s Calan Williams set an impressive early pace, and despite also having some of his late attempts compromised, he qualified a season-best sixth. Julian Hanses was the slowest of the Motopark quartet in seventh, although had been as high as third, while Christian Hahn was the top Carlin driver in eighth.

The returning RP Motorsport was ninth fastest with Javier Gonzalez, ahead of Williams? team-mate Cameron Das.

After going slowly early on, the second RP Motorsport car of Pierre-Louis Chovet recovered to 15th, ahead of Drivex School pair Rui Andrade and Franco Colapinto.

Propping up the order was Teo Mart?n pair Aldo Festante and Guilherme Samaia, and the debuting CF Racing cars of Stefano Leaney and Stuart Wiltshire, who are getting closer to the pace with every session.
