Formula 2’s points leader Richard Verschoor has confirmed that this season, his fifth in the championship, will be his last.

The MP Motorsport driver moved to the top of the standings by winning the Red Bull Ring feature race, and two seventh places at Silverstone last weekend means he leads by six points.

While his focus is on keeping up his strong F2 form, Verschoor has also taken steps to prepare himself for a future outside of Formula 1’s support paddock. Across his first four F2 campaigns he claimed four wins and 10 other podiums.

“I don’t want to be racing in F2 next season,” the 24-year-old told Formula Scout. “This is my last season for sure. I’m looking at multiple options for next year.”

One of those is Formula E, which Verschoor has been “excited” by the evolution of and says “it’s definitely an interesting championship looking at the level of the drivers”.

“I also saw what they are planning in the future with the new cars and the new Gen4 and I think it’s very cool.”

Verschoor has started to utilise the experience of a ‘well-connected’ figure to help open doors outside of F2 and further his career.

“I just have someone looking out for me, nothing is officially sealed yet. He is helping me to look for other opportunities as he knows a lot of people and hopefully he knows the right people for me.”

The Dutchman also has a long-term view on how to establish himself in another championship.

“I would like to be building my future with a specific team or manufacturer so we are looking at our options but its not so straightforward,” he said.

“It’s always tough for me because I just don’t have a lot of budget, which makes it sometimes quite hard if you’re competing with people that can bring a lot of money. And sometimes that’s a bit annoying.”

Speaking to media including Formula Scout ahead of taking the points lead, Verschoor reflected on his 2025 F2 form and his new career support:

“I really hope and think generally that we can keep this going. It hasn’t been luck, the last six rounds, so I think we’ve been really performing well, mainly in the races. From my side, I have to improve qualifying. So I will work on that personally.

“Then regarding my future, I’m looking at all the options. I finally have someone that’s looking out for me, so hopefully that helps a bit. I realised, of course, that it’s very hard to keep doing everything by yourself. And if you have someone that knows a lot of people and a lot of teams, that it’s better to have someone looking out for you. So I’m really happy with that, and what roads I will take [thanks to that].”
