Max Esterson will step up to Formula 2 with Trident for the final two rounds of this season at Losail and Yas Marina Circuit.
Esterson came 21st in his first full FIA Formula 3 Championship campaign in 2024 with Jenzer Motorsport, with his best race result of sixth coming in the Bahrain season opener.
Last year he contested two FIA F3 rounds with Rodin Carlin, then finished 20th in the Macau Grand Prix with Jenzer.
After starting out in Esports, Esterson was a star in Formula Ford 1600 at the beginning of his real-word racing career, winning both the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy. He also spent two years in GB3, coming seventh in the 2022 standings with one win and two other podiums, and took one more podium and 11th in the championship last year.
He takes over the Trident seat previously occupied by Richard Verschoor, who has returned to MP Motorsport for both the final two rounds of this season as well as a full campaign in 2025.
“It’s great to be making the step up to F2, even if it’s a little sooner than I had imagined,” said Esterson. “Just two years ago I was running a FFord and winning the FFord Festival, and now I’m about to make my debut in F2.
“It’s all happened quickly but the people closest to me are all confident about my ability to successfully make the jump. I’ve been working hard with the team at Trident and feel I’m well prepared and ready to go. I want to give a special thanks to Maurizio Salvadori and Giacomo Ricci for making this happen, and to the rest of the Trident team for making me feel so welcome.”
“We are excited to finally be working with Max in a race situation,” added Trident’s team manager Giacomo Ricci. “We first met him over two years ago when he was still driving FFords and have closely followed his progress since then.
“He had some very strong outings this year in FIA F3, his first year in international competition, especially as he was with one of the smallest teams, and on circuits which were almost all new to him. He is smart and has a mature, calm personality; he is hard working, and while he has already shown great pace, he is only in his fourth full year of racing and still learning – so we’re excited to see his progress this year.”
