Patrick Woods-Toth, the reigning United States Formula 4 champion, has signed with Kiwi Motorsport to race in Formula Regional Oceania.
The Canadian single-seater rookie took four victories and 10 other podiums en route to the 2023 US F4 title, having stepped up to cars after four years racing in senior karting in the USA.
He raced for the Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport team, the American arm of the team from New Zealand, and is Kiwi’s fourth signing for FRegional Oceania. The opening round takes place next weekend.
“I am thrilled to join Kiwi Motorsport,” said the 19-year-old. “They are a team with great experience and reputation and together I know we have the chance to fight at the front. I will gain valuable experience racing outside of North America for the first time, and I can’t wait to get on track.”
MTEC Motorsport has also grown its FRegional Oceania line-up to four cars, but new signing Tommy Smith will only do rounds one to three of the five-event season.
The 21-year-old Australian came 14th in the series in 2019, when it was known as the Toyota Racing Series, and has since raced in FRegional’s Asian and European championships, S5000, GB3 and the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
His only two podiums so far in winged single-seaters came in his 2022 GB3 campaign, with one of those being a win, while he failed to score from full seasons in FREC and FIA F3. He will continue in the latter championship for this year.
“I’m super happy to be able to compete in the first few rounds of FRegional Oceania as preparation for my 2024 FIA F3 season,” said Smith. “It will benefit the beginning of my season immensely by competing in a racing format and not just testing.”
