Jay Howard retains Christian Rasmussen for new USF2000 squad

by Jake Williams-Smith

Jay Howard Driver Development will run Danish driver Christian Rasmussen in USF2000 this year, having finished third in the 2018 United States Formula 4 standings with the teenager.

The Indianapolis-based team, headed by 2006 Indy Lights champion Jay Howard, will be making its debut in USF2000 this season, while Rasmussen becomes the first Danish driver to appear on the Road to Indy ladder.

Rasmussen, 18, started his car racing career in Danish Formula Ford, where he was runner-up in 2016, followed by two seasons in F4 at home and in the US, finishing third in the points in both.

?I like it very much over here, and Jay and his team is the right place for me to grow as a race driver. Both mentally and technically,” Rasmussen said.

?Taking this next step will be very exciting. We look at eight race weekends with 15 rounds, and a lot of testing in between, so I should get to know the car very well [sic.].

?Of course, I am thrilled to get this opportunity, taking the first step towards IndyCar, but it is not my main goal.

?I will go as far as I can in single-seaters, and if I end up in IndyCar, that would be great, but if not, there are so many other directions to go to.”

?Christian has proven that he has what it takes to reach the top,” added team boss Howard.

?Besides that, he has a great personality, and has proven to be a really good team-mate. Christian is the kind of driver, that always try hard to improve, and he drives the car to the limit, to try and get the maximum out of the car.”

JHDD has also signed Christian Bogle for USF2000, with the American doubling up for the team in US F4 too.
