FIA Formula 3 championship runner-up Zak O’Sullivan will step up to Formula 2 in 2024 with the ART Grand Prix team.

The Williams junior is yet to test an F2 car, but does have Formula 1 test experience with Aston Martin as a prize for winning the 2021 Autosport BRDC Award.

He is ART GP’s first signing for next season, and makes the move up to F2 after a season in which he claimed four wins, a pole and three fastest laps in the third tier of single-seater racing.

“I’m delighted about the collaboration between Zak and ART GP,” said the team’s boss Sebastien Philippe.

“He’s a driver we’ve been following for a long time, and he has consistently elevated his level of performance. His background and mindset align with ART GP’s mission of supporting young drivers to the highest levels of motorsport.

“It’s with pleasure and honor that we welcome a member of the Williams Racing Driver Academy. With proper winter preparation, his racing approach and adaptability should enable him to compete at the front.”

O’Sullivan started his car racing career by coming second in the entry-level Ginetta Junior sportscar series in 2019, then he was British Formula 4 runner-up in 2020 with nine race wins. For 2021 he stepped up to GB3 and took the title with seven victories, then in his rookie FIA F3 season last year he came 11th in the standings. The highlights of the campaign were pole and a second place finish on home soil at Silverstone, then a podium appearance at Zandvoort.
