Richard Verschoor has announced he will race for Trident next year in what will be his fourth season in Formula 2.
“Back for more with Trident in 2024,” said the 23-year-old Dutchman. “I am excited to work tirelessly on developing the new car together. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to take on the challenges ahead.”
Verschoor debuted in F2 with MP Motorsport back in 2021, taking one win from 17 races before leaving the team. He missed a round, then contested the season finale with Charouz Racing System to come 11th in the standings with 56 points.
Last year he switched to Trident and the partnership began with victory at Bahrain, then second in the Jeddah feature race three races later. Verschoor did not stand on the podium again until the 24th race of the season, and another second place finish three races after that put him 12th in the standings with 103 points.
For 2023 he moved to Van Amersfoort Racing and had his highest-scoring campaign yet, picking up 108 points, taking one feature race win and two sprint race podiums to end up ninth in the points table.
He made his return to Trident in post-season testing, driving for the team in the first two days of action at Yas Marina Circuit, and is the Italian outfit’s first signing for 2024.
On his way up the single-seater ladder to F2, Verschoor won two Formula 4 titles, was runner-up in the Toyota Racing Series, won the Macau Grand Prix and finished ninth in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
