Van Amersfoort Racing’s Gustav Jonsson was fastest in the latest post-season Italian Formula 4 test at Misano.

Each day of the test was split into two sessions, and Jonsson topped the opening session on Friday morning with a 1m34.809s lap.

Six different drivers spent time at the top during the course of the session, with Jonsson setting what would be the final benchmark on his 53rd lap of 58. He ended up leading US Racing ‘s Matheus Ferreira by 0.204 seconds, with Ferreira doing 68 laps, and PHM Racing’s James Egozi was 0.324s off the pace in third place.

The top 12 were covered by 0.981s, with the slowest of the 22 drivers taking part being  PHM’s Everett Stack who was 3.209s off the pace.

The vast majority of drivers improved in the afternoon session, as Jonsson lowered the pace by 0.408s. They topped the timesheet by 0.618s over Ferreira with a 1m34.401s lap, and Ferreira was slower than they were in the morning.

Egozi was third again, 0.698s behind, and R-ace GP’s Luka Sammalisto was 0.780s off the pace in fourth. A gap of 0.124s covered fourth to ninth.

PHM’s Davide Larini, VAR’s Lin Hodenius and Jenzer Motorsport’s Zhelin Shen were the other drivers who failed to match their morning laptimes, but Larini still ended the day in fourth place overall.

The pace was slower for everyone in the Saturday morning session, but Jonsson was once again fastest. He set a 1m34.993s to lead Ferreira by 0.404s, with Larini 0.703s behind in third. Just 0.013s slower than him was US Racing’s Maxim Rehm, with a further 0.031s to Egozi in fifth and another 0.026s to Hodenius in sixth.

Although Jonsson was the benchmark in the afternoon, he was not among the 12 drivers to set personal best laptimes. His 1m34.423s, just 0.022s slower than his Friday best, put him 0.27s ahead of Rehm who did improve to become the second fastest driver overall in the test.

Similarly, US Racing’s Finn Wiebelhaus and Egozi improved to end the test in third and fourth overall, with Ferreira completing the session’s top five and as a non-improver dropping to fifth overall too. Hodenius and team-mate Alvise Rodella were a 0.002s slower than Ferreira and joint sixth fastest in the session.
