Fortec Motorsports’ Nikolas Taylor took two GB4 poles by beating Kevin Mills Racing duo Tom Mills and Jarrod Waberski in qualifying at Snetterton.
Mills pipped Waberski to second for race one in the final seconds of the 15-minute session, but will start behind his team-mate in third for race two.
It was Mills that led the way at the halfway stage with a 1m49.613s lap, but Taylor soon grabbed the advantage by setting a 1m49.242s.
Mills went quickest once more on his next lap with a 1m48.926s, with Waberski and Elite Motorsport’s Jack Sherwood moving up to third and fourth.
Taylor improved to get within 0.2s of Mills, but was then beaten by Hillspeed’s Megan Gilkes, who was 0.026 seconds shy of provisional pole.
Waberski displaced Mills at the top by 0.001s, before Hillspeed’s Max Marzorati recorded a 1m48.894s to move ahead.
But Taylor responded with a 1m48.894s to take pole. Waberski improved to second on his final effort before being beaten by Mills, who had held provisional pole for race two – based on each driver’s second-best laptime – until late on.
Marzorati ended up fourth ahead of Sherwood and Gilkes, the top six separated by 0.614s.
Logan Hannah was the quickest Graham Brunton Racing runner in seventh. Nine cars will take part in this weekend’s three races after Alex Walker left Elite Motorsport and then withdrew the privateer entry he had on Friday.
