Shawn Rashid will race for the Velocity Racing Development by Arden team in GB3 this year.
The 27-year-old will be embarking on his second season in the championship, having come 25th in the standings as a slicks-and-wings rookie last year with Douglas Motorsport. He missed the last round, and his sole top 10 finish – a sixth place at Zandvoort – came in his final start.
In 2022, Rashid raced in Formula Ford 1600. He came fifth in the BRSCC National FF1600 championship with Ammonite Motorsport, and took his maiden win at Brands Hatch. The American also appeared in United FFord, won his FFord Festival heat and was a semi-finalist at the Walter Hayes Trophy.
“Last season was tough, but joining the VRD by Arden family has been a breath of fresh air,” said Rashid.
“With the supportive and nurturing environment they’ve created, I’ve developed so much with them during winter testing and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and genuinely optimistic about the great things we’ll achieve together.”
VRD team principal Dan Mitchell added: “It’s great to welcome Shawn to the team for the new GB3 season. He’s only heading into his third season of car racing of any sort, so he’s still got a lot of experience to make up compared to his rivals. I think he showed a lot of promise in GB3 last year, and has continued to build on that in testing with us, so should continue that progression throughout the season.”
Rashid will be team-mate to fellow American racer Noah Ping.
