Sharp wins again in GB3’s second Donington Park contest

Louis Sharp further extended his GB3 points lead by taking his second win of the weekend in a slippery race two at Donington Park.

The Rodin Motorsport driver led away from pole on a wet but drying circuit and soon edged clear of his title rival and Hitech GP racer Tymek Kucharczyk.

Sharp held a 3.8-second advantage by the halfway stage of the 13-lap contest and, despite Kucharczyk then taking a second out of his lead, controlled proceedings in the closing stages to finish 2.4s clear of the Polish driver.

Fellow title contender John Bennett (JHR Developments) gained one place to fifth at the start after Rodin’s Freddie Slater squeezed Velocity Racing Development’s Noah Ping onto the grass.

Bennett was then shuffled back two positions before the opening lap was completed after Ping dived up the inside into Melbourne hairpin and Rodin’s Arthur Rogeon followed him through.

Slater meanwhile applied early pressure on Hitech’s Gerrard Xie for third before taking the position into Melbourne on lap three, and he then pulled four seconds clear of the Chineser racer to initially score his first GB3 podium.

A five-second penalty for exceeding track limits demoted Xie two places to sixth at the chequered flag behind Ping and Rogeon.

Following the race, Slater was penalised one position for his lap one incident with Ping, who was therefore promoted to third in the final results.

Bennett took seventh after resisting mid-race pressure from Fortec Motorsports’ Colin Queen, who edged Hitech’s Will Macintyre to eighth. Elite Motorsport’s McKenzy Cresswell and Arden’s Max Taylor were also close behind, the latter having prevailed in an earlier battle with his fellow VRD protege Nikita Johnson.
