Carlos Sainz Jr will make his Formula 1 testing debut at the upcoming young driver test at Silverstone, taking over from Antonio Felix da Costa behind the wheel of the Red Bull RB9.

Further to his run in Abu Dhabi at the end of last year, Felix da Costa will drive the car on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 of July. With a Formula Renault 3.5 round taking place at Spielberg that weekend, Sainz will then take the wheel on the Friday.

It is possible that Spaniard Sainz could also drive with Toro Rosso on the earlier two days, with the Italian-based outfit yet to reveal their plans for the test.

18-year-old Sainz is racing in GP3 this year, sitting sixth in the standings ahead of this weekend’s third round of the season, also at Silverstone. He also finished sixth on his Formula Renault 3.5 debut in Monaco.
