Red Bull Junior Carlos Sainz, Jr. will return to Formula Renault 3.5 with Zeta Corse for the final three rounds of the season, having made his series debut earlier in the year at Monaco.
Sainz, 19, will join William Buller in the Italian team’s lineup, marking what appears to be the final change in Zeta’s roster in 2013.
The son of the two-time World Rally champion of the same name, Sainz kicked off his single-seater career in 2010, contesting a full-time Formula BMW Europe season with EuroInternational that yielded two victories and fourth overall. A double campaign in Formula Renaut Eurocup and Formula Renault NEC followed in 2011, as Sainz finished second in the former and took the title in the latter.
After another double campaign in 2012 didn’t quite pan out according to plan, with Sainz finishing sixth in British F3 and the F3 Euro Series, the Spaniard joined the MW Arden squad in GP3. He’s recently taken his first pole position in the series and currently sits in ninth in the standings.
The Spaniard has contested three races in this year’s FR3.5 already, with a finish of sixth at Monaco and two non-scores at Spa.
His teammate Buller has contributed to the team’s best result of the year, taking fifth at Moscow Raceway and at Spielberg. Zeta Corse currently sit at 11th in the teams’ standings.
