Reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion Robin Frijns was quickest in the GP2 practice session at Nurburgring, topping the timesheets early on and remaining the leader until the checkered flag.

In a session which saw drivers struggle to get heat into the tyres, Sam Bird took second ahead of Arden’s Mitch Evans. Fabio Leimer was fourth, leading championship leader Stefano Coletti and ART’s James Calado, who narrowly avoided a severe accident by managing to correct for a spin in time.

Jolyon Palmer took seventh, ahead of Bird’s teammate Tom Dillmann. Adrian-Quaife Hobbs and Rene Binder rounded out the top ten.
