Toyota protege Ritomo Miyata will continue in Formula 2 for a second season in 2025 with a move to ART Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old won both the Super Formula and Super GT titles in 2023, having previously claimed the Japanese Formula 4 crown in both 2016 and 2017, and then the Super Formula Lights championship in 2020.

His debut F2 campaign with Rodin Motorsport came in a year when Toyota would enter into partnership with the Haas Formula 1 team, with one of its aims being to provide chances for its drivers to reach the pinnacle of single-seater racing.

With no prior experience at most of the circuits, Miyata would finish his rookie season 19th in the standings with two fifth places in Melbourne being his best results.

“I am thrilled to announce that I will be competing in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season with ART Grand Prix,” he said. “I am deeply grateful to Morizo-san [Akio Toyoda] and everyone at Toyota Gazoo Racing for giving me another opportunity to race in Formula 2.

“I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to ART Grand Prix for warmly welcoming me into their team. ART Grand Prix is a prestigious team in the world of motorsport, and I feel honoured and excited to compete alongside them as one of their drivers.

“Building on the lessons I learned during the 2024 season, I will give my absolute best together with Morizo-san, TGR, and ART Grand Prix. Thank you for your continued support as we take on the 2025 season together.”

Under the guidance of former F1 driver and TGR Europe vice-chairman Kazuki Nakajima, Miyata also raced in the European Le Mans Series where he took two wins in 2024, but he is expected to focus more on F2 next year.

“We are delighted to welcome Ritomo Miyata to ART Grand Prix for the 2025 Formula 2 season,” said team principal Sebastien Philippe. “With his prior F2 experience and impressive results in single-seater racing, Ritomo has all the qualities needed to take on this challenge. We are excited to work with him and support him in achieving his goals this season.”
