Ferrari junior and Formula Regional European champion Rafael Camara will race for Trident when he moves up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for 2025.
It marks a departure from Prema for the Brazilian after spending all three years of his single-seater career so far with the team.
A winner of the WSK Champions Cup, Super Master Series and Champions of the Future in his last year of karting in 2021, Camara then stepped up to Formula 4 with Prema after joining the Ferrari Driver Academy. He finished second in the United Arab Emirates series despite missing the first event, then came third in the Italian and German ADAC championships.
Camara stepped up to FRegional machinery for 2023, placing third in the Middle East series and fifth in the European championship. Staying on in the category for a second year in 2024, he again came third in the Middle East and then dominated the FREC season, wining four of the first six races and wrapping up the title with a round to spare.
He has linked up with Trident – which took Gabriel Bortoleto and Leonardo Fornaroli to the last two drivers’ titles – as post-season testing got underway at Jerez on Tuesday.
“I’m very happy to join Trident, it is such a great team and it’s very nice to be part of it,” said Camara. “I can’t wait to start working with everyone and see what we can achieve together.
“Of course the expectations are high, I think next year we will for sure be targeting to fight for the championship.
“I know it will not be easy and we still need to do a lot of work for the moment as it is not only a new car but also a new team, so everything will be new for me.”
