Ferrari junior Rafael Camara will remain in Prema’s Formula Regional European Championship line-up for 2024, after coming fifth in the standings this year.

The 18-year-old Brazilian joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in November 2021 after contesting its Scouting World Final, and he was placed with Prema in Formula 4 for his rookie year of car racing in 2022.

Despite missing the opening round he was F4 United Arab Emirates runner-up with six wins, and one win from a part-time ADAC F4 campaign was still enough to put him third in the standings there. He was also third in Italian F4 with two wins.

The step up to FRegional this year resulted in third place in the Middle East championship, after making the podium five times, and fifth in FREC where he claimed two wins and three poles.

“I’m very happy to continue with Prema. We had a very good year together in 2023, everybody is very collaborative and it’s basically like a big family,” said Camara.

“I’m very looking forward to starting the new season and continuing this journey. I learned so much this season, and I will try to do my best to keep learning and do a good job. I’m confident it will be a positive year.”

Camara will be team-mate to F4 graduate Ugo Ugochukwu and W Series race-winner Marta Garcia at Prema next year.

“It’s great to work for another year with Rafael. We think he has a lot of potential and we cannot wait to see what we will be able to achieve,” Prema’s team principal Rene Rosin said.

“FREC is always a challenging championship, where all drivers and teams are really close together. It also visits some of the most relevant venues in junior single seaters, so it’s an outstanding learning ground and we hope to take the most out of it in 2024.”

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who was Camara’s team-mate in F4 and FRegional over the last two years and won titles in both, is stepping up to Formula 2 with Prema.
