Oscar Piastri was fastest for the second successive day as Formula Renault Eurocup’s test at Magny-Cours concluded.
The R-ace GP driver set a 1m36.525s with 30 minutes of the session remaining, edging out Renault junior Victor Martins by just 0.091s.
Fellow series returnee and MP Motorsport driver Lorenzo Colombo completed the top three, just over three tenths shy of Piastri’s benchmark.
French F4 graduate Ugo de Wilde was the top rookie in fourth for JD Motorsport, while M2 Competition’s strong debut continued with Kush Maini rounding out the top five.
The top 10 was completed by British F4 race-winner Patrik Pasma, French F4 champion Caio Collet, SMP-backed Alexander Smolyar, M2’s Esteban Muth and 2018 Italian F4 rookie champion Petr Ptacek.
Although Piastri’s time was set on slicks, the majority of the early running was done in the wet conditions, catching out multiple drivers and causing numerous red flags.
Sebastian Fernandez, who is dovetailing a part-time Eurocup campaign with a full FIA F3 season, topped the wet morning session but didn’t run in the afternoon.
Patrick Schott, Federico Malvestiti and Frank Bird?all spun into the gravel or the wall in the tricky conditions, ending up 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.
