Miguel Costa will step up from karting to cars with Campos Racing in Spanish Formula 4 next year.

The 15-year-old Brazilian was signed to Formula 1 manufacturer Sauber’s karting team (but not to its driver development programme) in 2020, competing on mini karts that year before stepping up to OK Junior machinery in 2021.

In 2023 he left to become a factory driver for Parolin but erroneously claimed he was “under Sauber Academy” for the year as he made another step up to OK karts. For 2024 he has combined the top class of single-speed karting with racing in the KZ2 class of shifter karts.

Fourth place in WSK’s Champions Cup and fifth in its Final Cup were Costa’s best results on OK Junior karts, with other highlights including eighth in the Champions of the Future series, 10th in the CIK-FIA World Championship and on X30 Junior karts coming sixth in the Trofeo Andrea Margutti.

On OK karts he has come 11th in the World Championship, 14th in CIK-FIA European Championship and 18th in the WSK Euro Series, while in the FIA Karting World Cup for KZ2 karts he finished 16th.

“I’m honoured and excited to announce that I will be competing for the F4 Spain championship with the Campos Racing team next season in my first single-seater campaign,” said Costa.

“To join such a legendary team brings me a lot of excitement and off-track opportunities. I’m ready to attack this next chapter of my career. Campos has an unparalleled reputation for developing great talents and I promise to give the team my all. I will bring a positive attitude and commit to improving each day, delivering maximum results possible and making the team proud.”

The Brazilian is the team’s third signing for 2025, following Vivek Kanthan and Noah Monteiro, both fellow karting stars.

“We are very happy to welcome Miguel to Campos Racing,” said team principal Adrian Campos Jr. “He is an immensely talented driver with an extensive and outstanding career in karting. Without a doubt, he is ready for his first season in such a challenging and competitive championship as F4 Spain. We will provide him with all our experience to make the transition from karting to single-seaters as smooth and effective as possible.”
