Max Esterson will continue racing for Trident in Formula 2 in 2025 after making his debut in Qatar last weekend.
Esterson, who finished 21st in FIA Formula 3 with Jenzer Motorsport this year, has been one of several drivers stepping up to F2 for the season-ending rounds. In his case, he took over the Trident drive vacated by Richard Verschoor’s early return to MP Motorsport ahead of 2025.
A winner of both the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy and a race-winner in GB3, Esterson finished 14th and 18th in the two races at Losail.
“I think even in one weekend I have already learned so much about Formula 2, but I’m sure it’s just the tip of the iceberg,” he said. “Together with the Trident engineering team, I will work hard this winter to make 2025 a great year.”
Team manager Giacomo Ricci said: “We are very pleased to announce that Max Esterson will compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Trident Motorsport. He is a driver we met two years ago, we have followed him very carefully and we have seen him making remarkable progress.
“This past year, Max has proven to be extremely competitive in his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship. I am confident that he has all the qualities to do a good job with our technical staff and be competitive in 2025.”
During his first F2 appearances, Esterson has partnered fellow F3 graduate Christian Mansell, who is signed to drive for Rodin Motorsport next year. Trident’s F3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli makes his F2 debut for Rodin this weekend in place of Zane Maloney ahead of competing for Invicta Racing in 2025.
