Zane Maloney topped both sessions on the first day of British Formula 4’s Croft test, while his Carlin team-mate Joe Turney’s deal to drive was confirmed for the next round.
While simultaneously competing in karting across Europe, Turney has been contesting his rookie British F4 season on a round-by-round basis, and is currently seventh in the standings with one podium and one pole from his debut weekend.
Turney was fifth fastest at Croft, half a second behind recent winner Maloney. The Barbadian topped both sessions, and ended up 0.296s clear of Double R Racing’s Sebastian Alvarez.
Croft has been one of Carlin’s weakest circuits, with only one win in 12 attempts over the last four years.
Arden’s Bart Hortsen was third fastest overall, ahead of recent Motorsport UK Academy inductee and JHR Developments driver Josh Skelton.
Skelton, Turney and the the unrelated Louis and Tommy Foster were covered by little over a tenth, although all were over half a second behind Rookie Cup entrant Maloney.
Reema Juffali was slowest for Double R, but is continuing to impress being just 1.764s off the top pace.
