Arjun Maini has been penalised for causing his strange final-corner collision with Nikita Mazepin at the end of the Formula 2 feature race at Silverstone.
Maini had made contact with the rear of Mazepin’s car as they rounded Club corner for the final time as they fought over 12th, sending the ART driver into a spin from which he didn’t restart.
Campos driver Maini was deemed to have been “wholly responsible” by the stewards, and apologised to Mazepin.
He was given a five second time penalty, which drops him from 12th to 13th behind Juan Manuel Correa.
Mazepin also earned a five-second penalty together with Giuliano Alesi after they were found to have exceeded the pit lane speed limit by 0.1km/h
Alesi?was also found to have made an unsafe release from his mandatory pitstop, as his left rear wheelnut was not properly attached. After being released, he stopped, and was wheeled back so that it could be reattached.
Therefore, Alesi was given a 10 second stop & go penalty with an additional 20 seconds added to his race time.
Mazepin and Alesi remain 16th and 17th respectively in the results after their penalties were applied, having already been classified a lap down.
