15-year old Swiss youngster Louis Deletraz will make his debut in full-time car racing by joining Josef Kaufmann Racing in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in 2013.
The son of former F1 driver Jean-Denis Deletraz has won the Swiss Trofeo Vega karting championship in 2009 & 2011 before graduating to car racing in 2012, where he took part in the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup, winning one race out of three and finishing fourth in the standings.
Regarding his FR 2.0 promotion, Deletraz said: “It’s an honour for me to be part of the Josef Kaufmann Racing Team for the 2013 season – the reigning champions of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. I already did several days of testing with the team and I really like how they work. It’s very nice to see that you have such experienced people around you. I’m really excited for the beginning of the season.”
Team boss Josef Kaufmann added: “We are very happy to welcome Louis in our team for the 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Series. Louis impressed us during the winter test days in our Formula Renault 2.0 car with a strong driving performance and his professional working attitude. We are very much looking forward to working together with him this year and aim for a successful season.”
2013 will be Josef Kaufmann Racing’s first full-time FR 2.0 NEC season, with Deletraz looking to be their first full-time NEC driver and their announced 2013 Eurocup driver Gustav Malja likely to contest a part-time campaign in the NEC series as well.
