Leonardo Fornaroli steps up to FREC with Trident

by Cian Brittle

Leonardo Fornaroli has joined Trident to complete the team’s Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine line-up.

The Italian is a one-time race winner in Italian F4, having taken part in the championship over the previous two seasons with the Iron Lynx team. The 17-year-old was also a guest driver in ADAC F4 for the first two rounds of 2021.

Already this season he has participated in the 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship for Hitech GP, securing five points finishes across just three of the five weekends.

“Trident Motorsport is extremely proud to have signed Fornaroli,” said team owner Maurizio Salvadori. “Throughout our history, we always kept a close eye on our country’s national racing environment, and Leonardo is without a doubt the best recent Italian prospect.

“We are delighted to have him in our Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine squad. He showed outstanding potential, and I’m sure we will grow up and achieve great results together this season.”

Fornaroli joins fellow F4 frontrunner Tim Tramnitz plus GB3 race-winner Roman Bilinski in Trident’s maiden FREC roster.

“The deal with Trident Motorsport is a great opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to be back on track and continue the work we started at the end of 2021,” he said.

“I’m working every day in the gym and with the simulator to be as ready as I can and achieve the best possible results. I want to thank Maurizio Salvadori and all the team for having welcomed with so much enthusiasm and determination.”

Trident is expanding into FREC having beaten Prema to win the FIA Formula 3 teams’ title in 2021, as well as continuing to compete in Formula 2.
