Kevin Mills Racing dominates Walter Hayes Trophy qualifying

by Formula Scout

Kevin Mills Racing drivers took pole for three of the four Walter Hayes Trophy heats at a wet Silverstone.

The first session, delayed by 50 minutes due to rain and high winds, ended up being awarded to two KMR drivers.

Asian Formula 3 driver Jordan Dempsey went fastest by over 1.4 seconds, but a transponder issue meant his best lap wasn’t recorded by the timekeepers at first.

This handed first place to his team-mate Michael Macpherson, who had pipped Cliff Dempsey Racing’s Formula Ford Festival dominator Jonathan Browne by 0.033s.

The session was also interrupted by Souley Motorsport’s Mark De Rozarieux spinning into the Woodcote barriers, with laptimes being significantly faster afterwards but not showing Dempsey’s improvements.

W Series champion Jamie Chadwick was eighth fastest for Graham Brunton Racing, 2.670s off pole.

WHT legends Michael Moyers and Joey Foster faced off in the second qualifying session, with KMR’s Moyers prevailing by almost a second over Don Hardman Racing driver Foster.

Jack Wolfenden managed to pip Team USA scholar Scott Huffaker to third at the end, as the volatile weather continued.

Michael Eastwell made it three KMR poles out of three in the third qualifying session, lapping 0.666s faster than Team Dolan’s Chris Middlehurst. South African racer Julian Van der Watt was third on his WHT return, ahead of Wayne Poole Racing’s Josh Fisher and B-M Racing’s Rory Smith.

There were no KMR drivers drawn into the fourth heat, and it was Team USA scholar Josh Green who benefited to nab pole by 0.120s. A further 0.033s covered Matt Cowley (Dolan) and Ollie White (Souley) in third and fourth, while French FFord star Milan De Laet marked his WHT debut with the fifth best time for Oldfield Motorsport.
