Jose Garfias will sit in for the injured James Hedley in AIX Racing’s FIA Formula 3 Championship line-up at Barcelona this weekend.
Hedley picked up a hand injury during last weekend’s sprint race in Monaco, which then ruled him out of the feature race the next day and now a full race event.
It marks the second time that AIX has had to change the driver of its #26 car, as 2024 Eurocup-3 runner-up Javier Sagrera did the first two rounds of the season before leaving the team and being replaced by GB3 race-winner Hedley.
“Very happy to be making my FIA F3 debut this weekend!” said Garfias.
“Big thanks to everyone who made it possible. I will make the most out of this great opportunity. I am ready for the challenge, it’s great to be working with AIX Racing for this one, happy to be with them once again. Can’t wait to get started!”
The 20-year-old Mexican already has F3-level experience, having raced in Euroformula since last September. He picked up a pole and four podiums from the three rounds he contested in 2024, and is currently sixth in the 2025 standings with one podium from the first two rounds.
Preceding that he raced in GB3, Formula Regional Middle East, FRegional European Championship and in 2023 made the podium several times in Eurocup-3.
Should Garfias finish 14th or higher in either of this weekend’s races, he would move above both Sagrera and Hedley in the FIA F3 points table.
