Swiss team Jenzer Motorsport has named its first drivers for the three Formula 4 championships it will be competing in this year.
In Italian F4 the team will be running Kim Hwarang and Ethan Ischer full-time, with both also set to make appearances in Formula Winter Series and with Ischer additionally signed up for ACCR F4.
Hwarang was a Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing junior in karting, through the CV Performance Group team he raced for, and he started testing in F4 with Jenzer in summer 2021. However in early 2022 he signed with BVM Racing to make his car racing debut with, and he went on to come 22nd in Italian F4 after missing two rounds.
He returned to Jenzer for post-season testing, and he will start 2023 with the team by doing two FWinter Series rounds to warm up for his sophomore Italian F4 campaign.
“I’m very excited to be joining Jenzer Motorsport for the Italian F4 2023 season,” said Hwarang. “We have made good progress throughout the winter and have gotten along well. I like how the team works and I’m very satisfied of what we have done so far. I will give everything to be fast and consistent throughout the season. I can’t wait to get started.”
Team principal Andreas Jenzer commented: “We have been following Hwarang Kim for some time and are delighted that he has now chosen to join our team. The joint winter tests have been very promising and we will do our utmost to help the first Korean single-seater racer to come a big step closer to his goal of becoming a professional racing driver.”
Ischer, from Switzerland, will also do the last two FWinter Series rounds next month before a combined ACCR and Italian F4 programme. In 2022 he made one ADAC F4 appearance with Jenzer and contested the full Italian F4 season but failed to score. He also made a Spanish F4 cameo with Sainteloc Racing.
“The 2022 season was full of learning and experience,” said Ischer. “We know each other well after already one year together which gives us a solid start for the year and I’m very excited to do this season with them.”
