Fortec Motorsports will add James Wharton to its GB3 line-up for the series’ two visits to Silversatone this year.
The first trip to Silverstone is next weekend, and is round two of the season, then on July 27/28 the series returns there for its sixth round.
Wharton is new to the British Grand Prix venue, which does not feature on the calendar of any of junior single-seaters’ Europe-wide championships, and he is only making two GB3 appearances since his primary programme is the 10-round Formula Regional European Championship.
“First of all, I want to thank Fortec Motorsports for the opportunity they are giving me. It will be such a great experience to drive a new car on a new track and, surely, will be quite challenging with no testing,” said Wharton.
“But I feel I can do a good weekend, and stepping into something new is always a great learning process. I can’t wait for the challenge and can’t wait to start working with the team.”
The former Ferrari junior is in his third year of car racing, and in 2023 he was Formula 4 United Arab Emirates champion, Euro 4 runner-up and a race-winner in Italian F4. He began 2024 in FRegional Middle East, where he took podiums and came sixth in the standings.
“We’re really happy to welcome James to the team for both of the Silverstone GB3 weekends,” Fortec’s team principal Oliver Dutton said.
“His development has been rapid in the past few years, and this will be another valuable experience for him as he races on a new track and gets to grips with a new car.”
Wharton will be Fortec’s third driver when he appears in GB3, with the team running Colin Queen and Edward Pearson full-time.
