James Hedley has confirmed that he will continue in GB3 with Arden VRD for the rest of the 2023 season after winning in the opening round.

The 19-year-old raced for the team at last month’s Oulton Park season opener, taking a maiden victory in a rain-soaked race two and ending the weekend five points behind championship leader Joseph Loake.

Hedley was 17th in GB3 last year after making a mid-season switch from Elite Motorsport to JHR Developments and then missing the final round due to an injury sustained in testing. He has felt more confident since joining Arden for pre-season testing in March, but initially didn’t have the budget for a full season.

“It’s great that the weight is dropped from our shoulders and we can now fully focus on the championship,” said Hedley.

“After a successful first round I can’t wait to keep building my relationship with the team and driving their car a lot more as it’s still quite fresh. Thank you so much to Arden VRD and our sponsors for making this possible.”

Hedley joins the rest of the GB3 field on track at Silverstone today for the first of two days of pre-event testing ahead of this weekend’s second round.

“We were already keen to race with James, but his performances at Oulton Park justified the initial deal, and everyone wanted to make sure that arrangement was extended for the rest of the year,” said Arden’s team manager Jack Woodhouse.

“He performed brilliantly under pressure at Oulton Park, hopefully with the knowledge that the seat is his for the rest of the year, he can go even better, starting this week at Silverstone.”
