Portuguese racer Ivan Domingues has joined Van Amersfoort Racing for his second season in Italian Formula 4.

The 16-year-old raced for Iron Lynx in his rookie campaign, starting his season on a high with a pole position at Imola but then only picking up six top-10 finishes and never finishing higher than seventh.

He warmed up for his first year in Italian F4 by contesting F4 United Arab Emirates with Xcel Motorsport. He also claimed a pole position in that series, and did finish on the podium twice, but was outside of the top 15 in the championship standings.

“I am extremely excited to return to the series with VAR,” said Domingues.

“Last year was a great learning experience in which I was able to get to know both the car and tracks. I now know what to expect, which has helped me a lot in my preparations for the season.

“Over the winter period I spent time with the team and was able to get to know the crew I’ll be working with. Their level of dedication is impressive and I look forward to a good season together with them.”

Domingues is the team’s fourth signing for Italian F4, after Brando Badoer, Jack Beeton and Alpine junior Matheus Ferreira.

“We are very happy to welcome Ivan to the team,” VAR’s CEO Rob Niessink said. “He is an eager, talented racer who clearly showed his determination last year.

“New to the series, he was able to put his foot down scoring both points and podium finishes in his maiden F4 championship. For sure his experience will help him this upcoming season. In addition to that, our team is fully dedicated to supporting him in reaching his full potential, both on- and off the track.”
