Formula 2 title runner-up Callum Ilott will stay in the series for this week’s post-season test at Bahrain, returning to the Charouz Racing System team he drove for in 2019.
Ferrari junior Ilott spent his rookie year in F2 with Charouz, when he was also a Sauber junior, and claimed two podiums before moving on to Virtuosi Racing for this season and taking three wins and coming just short of the title.
He will partner up with FIA Formula 3 Championship graduate David Beckmann and F2 backmarker Guilherme Samaia for the test on December 8-10. Ilott will not be racing in Formula 1 next year, but neither is he planning to return to F2 and looks more likely to spend 2021 on the sidelines.
Several other teams have revealed their line-ups for the test, with MP Motorsport picking long-time F2 driver Louis Deletraz and FIA F3 race-winner Lirim Zendeli.
HWA Racelab has brought Roberto Merhi back to the series, the Spaniard having raced in F2 in 2017 and 2018, as well as Matteo Nannini. Formula Scout understands that Nannini is in contention for a race seat with the team in 2021 and could race in both F2 and F3 as their calendars do not clash.
Trident has already announced Clement Novalak, another pursuing a double programme, will be driving one of its cars for two days of the test, and fellow FIA F3 racer Bent Viscaal will take over that car when he’s not driving.
Euroformula champion Marino Sato, who raced for the team this year, will remain in his usual seat.
The rest of the line-ups have already been revealed, and can be seen below:
