Paul Aron and Amaury Cordeel have been signed by Hitech GP as its Formula 2 line-up for 2024.

It will be Cordeel’s third F2 campaign, after he scored 26 points and come 17th in the standings as a rookie in 2022 and then scored eight points and came 20th in the standings this year with Virtuosi Racing. His best result from 50 races is a fifth place.

The 21-year-old Belgian started his car racing career in Formula 4, where he was a race-winner in the United Arab Emirates and North European Zone’s championships and won the Spanish title.

“I am excited to be staying in F2 for another season, this time joining Hitech on the grid,” said Cordeel. “I’m ready to take on the challenge and write the next chapter of my racing journey with this incredible team. I am so grateful for the opportunity and look forward to the start of the new season in February.”

Aron made his F2 debut with Trident in last weekend’s season finale at Yas Marina Circuit, qualifying 21st and finishing the two races in 16th and 18th. He also debuted in Formula 3 this year, coming third in the FIA championship with one win.

The 19-year-old Estonian’s route to F2 started with Italian F4, which he came third in as a rookie, a Formula Renault Eurocup campaign in 2020 then two successive seasons of finishing third in the Formula Regional European Championship.

“I’m really pleased to be joining Hitech in F2 for 2024. It will be a really important step in my career, coming off a strong rookie season in F3 where I took third overall,” said Aron. “I’m looking forward to developing my skills with the Hitech team and I am confident we can hit the ground running next year.”

He became a Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 junior in 2019, but will lose that status for next year as he steps up to F2.

Clive Hatton, Hitech’s F2 team manager, commented: “Amaury has two years’ worth of experience in F2. Showing a rise in performance in recent rounds we hope to build on this in post-season testing and into next season. Paul has proved himself to be a championship contender [this] year in FIA F3, and the previous two years in FREC. We are eager to see them
both working with the team, performing on track and fighting for victories.”
