James Hedley will remain on the FIA Formula 3 grid after all for this weekend’s season-closing round at Monza, driving for Van Amersfoort Racing in place of Santiago Ramos.

Hedley had contested five rounds this season with AIX Racing but has been replaced for Monza by Fernando Barrichello, who is also signed to race for the team in 2026.

The former GB3 regular had scored a breakthrough result in the most recent round at the Hungaroring when he finished fourth in the sprint race – his first points finish in the series.

Ramos has won twice with VAR this year – in the season-opening Melbourne sprint race and in the Imola feature race – but the two parties have mutually decided to part ways, according to the team.

“We’re pleased to welcome James to the team for the final round at Monza,” said VAR team principal Brad Joyce.

“With prior race experience in the category and the clear potential we’ve seen from him, we expect he will adapt quickly to our environment. This weekend is a valuable opportunity for him to build on his time in FIA Formula 3, while for us it’s a chance to support him in making the most of it. We’re looking forward to working with him and are confident that he will make a positive impression.”

In its statement, VAR said that Ramos “proved his competitiveness in one of the most demanding junior single-seater championships”.

“His results not only underline his talent but also reflect the hard work and commitment he has put in alongside the team. The team thanks Santiago for his efforts and achievements this season and wishes him the very best for the next steps in his career.”
