Kas Haverkort will continue in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine for a third year, and his second with Van Amersfoort Racing, this season.

The Dutch driver came fifth in the standings in 2022 with two victories to his name but, with no opportunities to move up to a higher category, it has long been expected he would stay in the series with the same team this year.

Haverkort previously raced with the other Dutch single-seater powerhouse MP Motorsport, with which he dominated the Spanish Formula 4 Championship in his first year of car racing in 2020 before placing 16th in FREC as a rookie the following year.

“Last year was great, but I am ready for more!” Haverkort said. “I am very much looking forward to attacking the new FREC season again together with VAR.

“Last season we made great progress throughout the year, and we will keep that momentum going into the upcoming season. I have grown close to the team and as a result we are able to communicate very effectively, which will surely benefit us.

“We are now getting ready for the first test at Barcelona, and I am extremely looking forward to the first round of the season at Imola next month.”

VAR will enjoy strong continuity in its FREC line-up this year with Joshua Dufek also continuing with the team for a second season.

“It’s needless to say that we are excited to welcome Kas back into our team for the 2023 FREC season,” said CEO Rob Niessink.

“In fact, he never really left as we used the winter period for a detailed analyses of the previous season and did extensive prep work for the upcoming one. Kas and our crew have grown close together and he is as dedicated and motivated as the team is, so we look forward to a successful season together.”
