Gustav Jonsson will return to British Formula 4 at Silverstone with Chris Dittmann Racing this weekend, fresh from podiums in the Italian and Euro 4 series.
The Swedish driver won British F4’s rookie cup in 2023 while driving for CDR, and finished 11th in the overall standings with two podiums.
This year he has been competing with Van Amersfoort Racing in Italian F4, where he has taken two podiums in the last two rounds and lies seventh in the points. In the last few weeks he’s also taken three podiums from the opening two events of the Euro 4 championship, putting him fourth in the standings.
Jonsson challenged Prema’s Freddie Slater for the lead of the most recent race at the Red Bull Ring last Sunday on the opening lap before he found himself pushed wide and ended up 16th. Slater went on to win, completing his latest weekend hat-trick, but has since been penalised for forcing Jonsson off track, handing the victory to Jonsson’s VAR team-mate Hiyu Yamakoshi and reducing the points gap between them to 11 points with one round to go.
“I am very happy to come back to the British F4 paddock together with Chris Dittmann Racing, who I started my formula racing journey with,” Jonsson said.
“It will be a bit of a change with the car and weather compared to what I have been used to this year in Europe, but I’m looking forward to going back to Silverstone this weekend. I am sure we can put up a good fight and I will be trying my best to bring home some good results for the team.”
CDR have run just one car for Bart Harrison for most of this season, although it missed the Thruxton round altogether after Harrison was disqualified from the previous event for a parc ferme altercation with another driver. Carrie Schreiner joined in a second car for Silverstone and Zandvoort, with fellow F1 Academy racer Jessica Edgar also part of its line-up at the Dutch track.
