Gary Thompson has announced that he will take the second seat at Romeo Ferraris at Monza in the European F3 championship.

It had previously been reported that Michael Lewis would race for the team but despite the American testing at Barcelona, Thompson has revealed on Twitter that he has signed a last-minute deal to race with the new F3 team in the first round.

Irishman Thompson, 20, has had lots of experience with F3 machinery, having joined Japanese F3 in 2010 after becoming vice-champion of Formula BMW Pacific in his rookie year.

Having spent three years in the category with KCMG, Thompson amassed two fifth places and a fourth place in the national class standings, with a best finish of fifth overall.

Before Thompson, Romeo Ferraris already announced one race driver for the 2013 season, that being the Italian Michela Cerruti.
