Ferrari prodigy Antonio Fuoco extended his championship lead in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps by taking the victory in the first race of the penultimate round of the champiionship at Monza.
Starting from pole, Fuoco made what he described as a “perfect start” and took a confident lead. He came under pressure from fellow front row man Nyck de Vries in the early stages of the race, but eventually created a gap to the Dutchman, allowing himself to control the race until the checkered flag.
The Koiranen man came in second, picking up his first podium in Formula Renault in 2013. Prema driver Luca Ghiotto kept his title hopes alive by taking third, ahead of William Vermont and Parth Ghorpade, who recorded his first top-five finish of the year.
Guilherme Silva kept Egor Orudzhev at bay for sixth, with another series regular Kevin Jorg taking eighth. Ukyo Sasahara and Bruno Bonifacio rounded out the top ten.
With three races to go, Fuoco leads the standings with 184 points. Ghiotto sits 35 points behind, with Bonifacio a further ten down.
