Foster fastest in practice for Indy Nxt’s shortened Milwaukee race

Louis Foster went fastest in free practice for the penultimate round of the 2024 Indy Nxt season on the Milwaukee Mile.

The Milwaukee 100 race held on the oval was last a part of the series’ schedule in 2015, but for its return the name will not be lived up to as the race has been shortened from 100 to 90 laps in the name of entertainment.

Championship leader Foster needs only to start the race to secure the title this weekend, with Jacob Abel the only other driver who remains mathematically in the championship fight.

Foster spent the entirety of the 45-minute practice session at the top of the order. The Andretti Global driver’s best lap was a 24.6209s, set at 148.41mph, and he was just over one mile an hour (equating to 0.1775 seconds) faster than HMD Motorsports’ Callum Hedge in second. A late improvement put Abel Motorsports’ Abel in third.

Two stoppages restricted running in the sole session before qualifying on Saturday. The first came in the opening 10 minutes, when Abel’s Taylor Ferns hit the wall at turn two. Almost as soon as the track was clear, HMD’s Reece Gold then ran into problems at the same corner.

There was only 20 minutes remaining when green flag action resumed.

One driver to improve immediately was Andretti Cape’s Salvador de Alba, who jumped up to second. He did not continue to find improvements, but that time was enough to place him fourth ahead of Jamie Chadwick (Andretti Global) and Yuven Sundaramoorthy (Abel).
