Foster fastest again in Indy Nxt’s second St. Pete practice session

Louis Foster set the pace again in Indy Nxt’s second practice session in St. Petersburg. 

The Andretti Global driver’s benchmark laptime was a 1m04.7916s, which put him 0.1272 seconds ahead of Caio Collet in second place.

It was a busy track, with much of the running looking more like a race than practice. Despite the traffic, most of the field managed to avoid any incidents. However, there were two crashes that brought out red flags late in the session. 

The first came when Christian Bogle ran into the barriers at turn four after going side-by-side with Jack William Miller. Bogle damaged his front-left wheel, and FP2 was red flagged with seven-and-a-half minutes left on the clock. 

The track went green again with three minute to go. There was little drama until seconds before the session clock hit zero as Nolan Allaer hit the wall after turn nine, causing damage to the front and rear of his car and ending FP2 slightly early as red flags were required.

Before these two incidents, Foster and James Roe Jr had swapped places at the top of the order. Foster was comfortably fastest when he set his 1m04.7916s, with Foster unable to match his rate of improvement. 

Collet also briefly spent time at the top, then dropped down the order before jumping back up to second place shortly before the session-ending red flags.

Jacob Abel was third fastest, ahead of Josh Pierson and Jamie Chadwick. Nolan Siegel occupied sixth place, while Roe ha dropped to seventh by the end. Jonathan Browne, Miller, and Myles Rowe completed the top 10. 

A few other drivers also had problems. Yuven Sundaramoorthy came to a stop on the main straight just before the end, though he was able to get going again. Michael d’Orlando only managed eight laps before an issue with his engine brought an early end to his morning. Neither incident disrupted the session.
