Jenzer Motorsport will fill its vacant FIA Formula 3 seat with Federico Malvestiti for this week’s in-season test at Jerez.
The team has two signed drivers for the full season, and its third car was filled by GP3 race-winner Niko Kari for last month’s Bahrain season opener in a last-minute, one-off deal.
It has now called upon the services of Malvestiti, who raced for Jenzer in Formula 4 and then F3 from 2017-’20.
“Federico Malvestiti will complete our line-up for the tests in Jerez,” Jenzer announced on Twitter.
“We obviously know Federico very well and we are extremely happy to work with the Italian driver again here in Jerez.”
During his three full years of racing for the team, Malvestiti picked up one victory in the Italian F4 championship and a best finish of 13th, achieved twice, in F3.
Between his two spells at the team he also competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup for Bhaitech, and claimed one podium.
The 21-year-old Italian has not competed in single-seaters since the end of his rookie F3 campaign in 2020, as last he moved into Porsche Carrera Cup Italy where his best results were two ninth places and he finished 16th in the championship standings.
More recently the mechanical engineering student has been racing in Italy’s karting scene and also been part of a private Italian GT test in a Honda NSX GT3 Evo.
F3’s Jerez test takes place on April 5/6, with each day split into a morning and afternoon session.
Oliver Rasmussen will drive for Trident as he replaces Jonny Edgar who has departed F3 due to long-term illness.
